What is a futurist?
Within organisations, futurists generally attempt to answer two important questions: 1) What’s going on ‘out there’? and 2) What needs to change ‘in here’?
History is littered with organisations, and indeed, entire countries whose failure to appropriately answer one or both of these questions led to their downfall.
The ability to ‘read the market’ is both the art and science of futurists... Identifying trends and anticipating changes to operating environments is a practice that occurs in a surprisingly small number of Australian organisations, but futurists are changing that.
A few of Tim's favourite quotes about the future
"The future is not what will happen; the future is what is happening." Gary Hamel and CK Prahalad
"The future is here: it's just not evenly distributed" - William Gibson.
