Unable to retrieve contacts. Please try again.

November 20th, 2006 · No Comments

murdochThere is a lot of hype about myspace as a social networking tool, but for what it’s worth, I find it half-baked and unstable. It’s not a particularly feature-rich application, but I find myself trying to work out how to make a simple change to my page. With ten years of web-development under my belt, if I find it hard, I conclude that many people would find it impossible.

Most recently, I tried importing my address book from Hotmail to see if any of my contacts are already using myspace. The error I received was: “Unable to retrieve contacts. Please try again.”. So I tried importing from my Gmail account, but I received the same error.

I wrote to myspace tech support about the error and they just acknowledged that it has been around for a while and to “please be patient”. Weeks later it’s still not working.

If I was Rupert Murdoch and I spent $580million on MySpace, I’d want the key feature users rely on to spread myspace to be working, and if it wasn’t working, I’d want it fixed, pronto.

Speaking of Murdoch, someone’s created a page in his name on MySpace. It’s been there for a while, but will censorship one day see this account deleted?
