You gotta fight for your right to (elect a) party

Beijing, 1989
Everyone, please come to Tiananmen Square on June 4. It’s the only way we can secure our right to choose our government. WARNING: You may be arrested, tortured or shot dead on the spot.

Australia, 2007
Everyone, please come to the AEC website, print out the form and email or fax it before 8pm on October 17. It’s the only way we can secure our right to choose our government. WARNING: the whole process takes about half an hour.

You’ve still got 24 hours to enroll to vote. Thousands of people in Burma, China, Iran and Iraq (to name a few) have died for democracy. Even if you don’t know who you’re going to vote for yet, it’s not going to kill you to enroll.

Traditionally people have weeks (not hours) to enroll after the election is called. At the last election, 400 000 young people enrolled at the last minute, securing their say in how our nation operates.

Some people think the rolls are closing early because the Liberal-National Coalition know most young people won’t vote for them. Whatever the case, we’ve only got a few hours left – let’s spread the word.
