    Hi there Tim,

I’d argue, as regards this category, that one area of national security is clearly biosecurity. The only state which effectively (you know, as opposed to the work done purely by AQIS our most competent quarantine network – *boom*boom*) addresses biosecurity is, in fact, Tasmania.

Surprisingly, Tassie isnt exactly included on the list.

Additionally, it would seem that all Antarctic activity really comes from Tassie, and, well, our Antarctic territories seem to come under a bit of fire from (among others) the Japanese (primarily because there’s no recognition of our sovereignty). Again – more likely to affect Tasmanian industry and workers than anyone else.

Others who, i feel, probably should have been included are members of the National Security Council (current and former) who have been excluded. I would hope they had at least received invitations.

I do, however, feel it’s a great thing that some students/research graduates have been invited. Not just because often students have more knowledge of what’s going on (maybe not how we get to a point or how to fix it in practice, but certainly what’s going on).

I am disappointed that there dont appear to be any/many random people in this group. It would seem that a couple of random people might be able to represent the ‘random’ views of the public at large.

NB: of course, while there is distinct under-representation of Tasmania and SA – there does seem to be a distinctly ACT flavour to ALL of these groups …

of course it’s going to be an exercise in participatory democracy … well, the pretense, perhaps!
